Engineering Design Projects
Nova’s mechanical design experience together with our understanding of aerospace tooling and equipment has enabled us to create a large portfolio of aerospace engineering design projects associated with Ground Support Equipment (GSE), supplying the world’s largest gas generator suppliers with tooling and equipment to aid manufacture, build, testing and the overhaul of their engines predominantly for the Aerospace and Industrial Power Generation industries.
For nearly 27 years the majority of Nova’s engineering design projects for the Aerospace industry have been associated with the introduction of new engine programmes, for both civil and military aircraft together with maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of civil aerospace and industrial power gas turbines.
Nova’s design engineers are highly experienced in all levels of production support from small part manufacture through to large scale, high-value manufacturing programmes.
Our internal engineering design team has expertise in techniques employed in the manufacture and assembly of a wide range of aerospace components in a variety of metallic and non-metallic materials.
Projects have ranged from engine transportation container systems and mechanical handling equipment, through to engine build / strip tooling, testing equipment, special purpose machinery and lifting equipment.
Nova Design provides expertise in tooling design and manufacture, addressing the challenges presented by new production techniques, industrial automation and the increasing use of composite and new materials.
Our specialist knowledge in tooling assists in maintaining quality while maximising practicality within a production environment. Nova also undertake projects on a “design and manufacture” basis. In these instances, Nova work very closely with a long standing manufacture partner – Formrite Precision Limited.
Established in 1959, and amongst other industry experience, Formrite have decades of experience in the aerospace engineering sector, having built up a vast knowledge and understanding of aerospace tooling and equipment. Working alongside Nova, supplying the world’s leading aero engine manufacturers, jointly we have built a reputation for manufacturing excellence, coupled with realistic prices and achievable lead times.
Our core tooling capabilities include the design and supply of aerospace tooling for:
- ground support equipment
- major assembly jigs
- automated manufacturing production techniques
- special purpose machines
- military and civil aircraft structure
- aero engines
- aero nacelles and thrust reversers
- detail machining fixtures
- special product tooling
- tooling for composite parts
- hot metal forming
- strip and build
- lifting and handling systems
- transportation systems
- automated/robotic manufacturing production techniques
Design projects have been successfully completed to the relevant industry and quality standards associated with such leading industries, including the verification to DNV standards for on/off shore (including on board ship) applications.
